Overview
The Subnational Safety Index (SUSAFE) dataset provides every month specific measurements of insecurity and the risk of re-escalation of conflict for 3,800 first-level administrative units worldwide on a scale from 10 (no detectable source of immediate political insecurity) to 0 (extremely high level of physical insecurity due to armed conflict). It is calculated by the nature and intensity of all ongoing political conflicts affecting the respective region in the previous month, the nature of turmoil in adjacent and other conflict areas as well as the mid-term impact of previous conflict escalation.
Data can be ranked from low (0) to high safety values (10), within respective countries, or alphabetically, and can be provided both as a numeric dataset or visualized in maps and graphs. The SUSAFE informs clients timely about emerging and transforming risks in each part of the world and has been especially created for travel and expat security tool as well as ongoing supply chain monitoring. It is compatible with other datasets used in this context, such as regulatory risks, crime rates, and environmental hazards, and provides a convenient way to compare subnational entities directly, as well as understanding trends and transformations in the recent past.
